snugliness for winter

I am a hat makin machine! I made this black/grey set for my friend at work. I brought it in this morning, and she was so very very excited! She kept saying "yay, now I will be warm". Eventually I will get around to making myself an earflap hat, maybe. For now, I am finishing a scarf to match the hat I made myself a few months ago. Next project is a pair of slippers, should be able to finish them tomorrow. Have a great day all.

Oh yes, Nicole in her new snuggly scarf/hat set!

the hat that ate my friends

During one of my early forays into hat making, I decided to use the supersoft baby yarn that i have. I figured it would make a cozy hat, and it did. I neglected to compensate for the thickness of the yarn by decreasing the needle size, and boy was that a mistake. The hat is HUGE. I will let you judge for yourselves.

Check this out!

My friends are the coolest! Tuesday night I went to A&X with C for gift exchange. I want to blog what X made me because I think she is just the coolest, most creative person ever! Most of you know that I am into crocheting. She MADE me a case for my crochet hooks! Not bought but made. It is the coolest thing! First of all, it is purple, so you know I love it, but the fact that she took the time to make something that she knew I would find useful, is just so cool!

Here it is closed. Pretty, no?

and here it is open, isn't that lining just yummy!

last but not least, the special hook she got me! The handle is made from polymer clay.

More, More..........

There are loads more pics coming, as soon as my friends email them to me. My computer is sick, and therefore I cannot upload any pics at home. I can, however, use my camera phone to take crappy pics, which is what I have done here. These are 2 of the 3 sets I made for orders here at work. Neither lady has picked up her masterpiece yet, which allowed me to take pics and show them to y'all. Enjoy

I tried to get the whole set in one pic:

and the hats roll on..........

*WARNING* IMAGE HEAVY

So my sister lives in New Jersey, and I do not get to see her very often, which is sad for me because I like her. We have been talking about crocheting lately, and I asked her if there was anything that I make that she wants. She told me no. In fairness to her, she is certainly capable of making her own scarf or blanket (she has been crocheting since she was little just like me) and even though she does not know it, I am convinced she could make hats as well. In any case, we were on the phone the other night, and I was telling her about the hats I was making my friends kids, and the hats that another friend had commisioned, and I mentioned that I liked making earflap hats, and she got all excited and asked if I could make her one. Being the super cool older sister that I am, I said sure, and asked her what color she wanted. Since I will not be able to mail the hat out until after the first of the year, I am putting it up here so she has something to look at. I hope you like it brat!

My lovely friend Carrie, who is modeling the hats for me, also commisioned me to make a hat for her sister, who requested rainbow yarn, and cat ears. I thought, what the heck, I will give it a shot, and this is what I came up with.

I also made her brother an earflap out in camoflauge yarn that is super super soft.

and finally I made her cousin a hat with a light and dark blue, apparently her Aunt saw the hats and just flipped at how cute they were!

Gifts Galore

Good Morning from gloomy Baltimore! Life has been a tad hectic here in F land. Since I work on Sundays (teaching kids to drive) things to not flow like they used to. Since I normally really only craft on Sunday, I have had to juggle things a tad. I got 3 orders last Wednesday, and worked like a mad woman to finish them, and done they are. There is only a slight problem, one of the ladies is on vacation for the next 2 weeks, which is just about when my contract expires. Oh well.

I made these super cute mary jane slippers for a co-worker of mine, she is just absolutely tickled by them. She said she was going to wear them all day!

Last night I went out to dinner with my friend C, and then we went to the mall and took advantage of a coupon we had for Bath & Body Works. I am now the proud owner of many many yummy smelling bath products.
I have a treatment this afternoon, which is good because my joints are starting to ache. Hopefully it will all go well.
My computer was picked up Thursday night. Well my friend took the hard drive from the lap top, and he took the entire CPU from the desktop. The hard drive for the laptop he can mail back when he fixes it (and I know he will) and the desktop he will have to physically bring back at some point.
So all in all, nothing exciting in my life. F OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

more with the crocheting!

Help! I have started crocheting, and cannot seem to stop!

I delivered this set to a co-worker today:

She was absolutely thrilled. I knew she was pleased when she turned around and ordered a SECOND SET!!!! This time in off white instead of pure white. There was another lady in the vicinity when I delivered the order, and she was so taken that she also ordered a set, in off white and camel. I am so excited that people are starting to see my work. There is something special about seeing someone else wear your work, and get pleasure out of it. I need to go buy more yarn, like NOW!

p.s SM, how cool is this?!?!?!

more crafty goodness

Good Morning Tiny People!

So A few weeks ago a lady at work told me that she liked the hats and things that I was crocheting. She expressed a desire to buy a scarf & hat set. I quoted her a price that I thought was ridiculous considering that yarn does not cost me very much, and that I LIKE making the things, and moved on in life. A little while later she came back with the amount of money I asked for, and requested colors! Alrighty then, 1 custom order coming up! I made both the hat and the scarf with 2 strands of Caron's Simply Soft held together. The hat is 2 strands of brown, and the scarf is 1 strand of brown, and 1 of camel. I worked the scarf horizontially instead of vertically, and I used a half double crochet worked into the back loop of each stitch to make a funky ribbed look. I am mega impressed with how it turned out, and it is super soft! I meant to take a picture before, but I forgot, so I have a picutre of her modeling the set.

Chag Sameach!

Today is day 6 of Chanukah. I love this holiday. Lots of good feelings all around. Let's see, I 'splain... no no take too long, I sum up. First of all, Mazal Tov to E&J who welcomed A.Z into the fold on Sunday. May you be zoche l'gadlo l'Torah, Chuppah, uMa'asim Tovim. Ok aside from that, on Thursday night I had supper at the K's and we did our gift swap. As I stated previously I gave handmade gifts. For baby A there was an earflap hat made of camo yarn (Daddy's in the Army) which matches the blanket I made him when he was born, and for J, there was a blue hat that will keep his head warm when he has to report for formation at 6 A.M. For S there was a necklace kit, which she gets to put together (hence the homemade) with wooden beads that will proclaim to one and all that she is the princess she knows herself to be! They gave me the coolest gift ever! They took a lovely woven basket and filled it with bunches of different yarns, and pattern books. I cannot begin to explain how much I loved it. Thanks guys! Sat. night I had a few friends over for lots of games, and some latkes. I would like to thank A&X for Apples to Apples, which is just SUCH a fun game! I would also like to thank C for my LOVERLY gifts. I adore them all! On Sunday I worked in the morning then I tooled off to Rockville for some quality time with the Abba figure. I made him a hat, which I frankly thought he would throw in the closet and never wear, so was pleasantly surprised when he got very excited and showed me that it exactly matched his new winter coat. Here he is.

I also made his friend a hat. I made her hat with 2 strands of Caron's Simply Soft, which I adore, except when it tangles, which is fairly frequent. Anyway, this hat is made in a flapper style with a slight bell at the end. I am really really proud of this hat, it came out almost perfect, and I think the colors are really classy.

I had a nice time all in all. I netted some cool yarn from my Mom's (O"H) stash that I had not raided previously. Some of it I have NO idea what I am going to do with, but some of it will be used to make A.Z. his welcome to the world present, and I am sure I can find things to do with the rest of it. I did net 6 skeins of Caron Wintuk in beige that I have NOT A CLUE what to do with, but it is all good.

That is all from here in B'more, I am gonna go work now, have a great week everyone!

yay Handmade!

I know I am a little slow in getting to this, but here it is
"I Took The Handmade Pledge! BuyHandmade.org

I decided that this year I would give all handmade gifts, be they by my hand or someone elses. I think that a handmade gift actually shows that you care, and did not just go "oh phooey, I forgot to buy ______ a gift!" While things like giftcards and electronics have their places, I am giving handmade.
On a different note, none of the people that were supposed to come last night were able to make it because of the snow, so we will try again Saturday night. I missed you guys, but it is all good, I am glad you were safe at home, rather than slipping and sliding around on the streets.
Neh!- I am glad that the hat arrived safely (along with your parents of course!) I would love to see pics of the tochterbean in the hat, so that I can show them to people and go "see that adorable kid in the hat? I made that hat!!" Anyway, good luck with the play. I am sure you will be great.
SM, Have a great time in NY, try to remember that they are your family and you love them. I think that may actually apply to EVERYONE that you are going to see this weekend! Be safe, and have a great time!
Last but not least, a HUGE Mazal Tov goes out to E&J who added to their clan on Shabbos. healthy baby boy efrex was born, and Ima and Abba and Baby (and big brother) are all, Thank G-D, doing well! I eagerly anticipate news of baby boy's name so I can stop calling him baby boy!
That is all the news from here, hope everyone has a great day!

yay!!!

Chag Sameach!!!!!!!! A Freilichen Chanukah!!!!
Can you all tell, I really like Chanukah? Well I do. I got my bestest present almost 27 years ago on the last day of Chanukah, and it is a present I still adore, although it does tend to tick me off sometimes. For those of you who do not know what I am talking about, and I am sure that is most of you, my baby sister was born on the last day of Chanukah, and my parents always told me that she was my gift. I love my sister, and even though I have not seen her in a while she is still the best gift ever.
Now for something comepletely different, here in scenic Bmore it is SNOWING! Now I am not one of those people that freaks out at the first flake, but it is sticking, and I really do not want to drive home in the dark, and the ice, which is what the snow will turn to after the sun sets, so I am hoping to get an early reprieve out of here. Anyway, I need to actually go back to doing my work, but I hope everyone has a great week.

Blah

I apologize for not posting (not that I am ever very good at it) My computer is on the fritz. Let's see, My vacation from work was lovely, I took advantage of the situation by WORKING! Ah, the beauty of 2 jobs. I am getting slowly more comfortable teaching driving. I still have the urge to scream, but in general I am pretty good about staying calm, and helping to correct instead of closing my eyes, and slamming the instructors break. I hit the Black Friday sales, and got myself an MP3 player, and some yarn. Speaking of yarn, I have been cranking out hats and things. I have been making ear flap hats lately, apparently they are all the rage. I have even sold 1 (Hi M), however I have made many many more. I have finished holiday presents for most of my friends, and I think they are going to be QUITE pleased with them. Yay homemade!
I guess that is it from around here.

Earflaps ahoy!

So I finally got around to making a hat for my friends son. MM is 2, and his favorite phrase is "also me" which makes sense considering he has 3 older siblings! Anyway, everytime I bring a hat to SM to look hat, he says "also me", or "I see" which is 2 year old for "let me try on the hat Faye" Now he has his very own.

I also made this lovely hat for the scion of the Druyan family, so M, take a look, hope you like it!

What else can you crochet?

so glad you asked. While I was relaxing in front of my tv this evening (after shopping for yarn to make a hat someone ordered, and showering, and packing for Shabbos) I decided to make these funky slippers. I LOVE them, think I might start experimenting on other patterns. Whaddya think?

Od Hat

see, if I had been bright enough to combine these two posts then the title of the last one would have been correct! This is the same style flapper/cloche hat in a scary red/orange/yellow variegated that I made for my friend who likes bright colors.

Hats!

Well ok, this post is just hat but it sounded better plural. On the advice of my crafty friend X, I have started checking out Craftster (which blogger will NOT let me post a link to), and I LOVE it! So far, I have really only spent time on the crochet section, and I am happy to report that there are so many things there, that I may never, ever make it to another section. Anyway, I saw this post of a cloche/flapper style hat that I loved. Now, I only started making hats a few weeks ago, and most of my skill lays in the, crochet a circle, repeat, type of area, but I decided to try this out. It was extremely well written, and seemed like even I could do it. I got myself some pretty yarn out of the stash in my closet, and I went to work. Suffice it to say, I am pleased with the results. If I still covered my hair, I would be making a BUNCH to wear.
SM we are gonna figure out a way to make you a comfortable hat that does not give you a headache, or raise your body temp by a bazillion degrees!

Here are the results of my first effort on me (sorry for the blurriness, there is only so much a cell phone can do)

and on MM, the cutest 2 year old ever (Fie, I See, I See!) Not quite his style, but still funny!

much crocheted goodness (and pics!)

Hello all,
I have finally figured out, with much restarting, and many mistakes, how to make a hat. The first attempt (the purple one) was started and restarted, and restarted, and restarted many many times. My friend refers to the correcting as "frogging" the piece. If you think about it, it makes sense, rip it rip it. Anyway, without further ado, here are the pics of the scarf and hat sets I have made so far.
